Johan H. Knapen
I am a research astronomer at the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) in Tenerife, and a visiting professor of astronomy at the University of Hertfordshire and Liverpool John Moores University in the UK. I Chair the Board of the Isaac Newton Group of Telescopes, and am Treasurer of the European Astronomical Society. From 2011 to 2015 I was Head of the Research Division of the IAC. I study the structure, dynamics and evolution of spiral galaxies, such as the one shown on the photo above, and the star formation occurring within them.
