SUMMARY:Precipitable Water Vapour measurements and forecasting at the Obser
 vatories.
DESCRIPTION:Precipitable Water Vapour measurements and forecasting at the O
bservatories.\nDr. Casiana Muñoz-Tuñón, Gabriel Pérez Jordán, Julio C
astro-Almazán\n\nThe precipitable water vapour (PWV) is the main absorber
in the Earth's\natmosphere at infrared (IR) and microwave wavelengths. In
the last years,\nthe IAC Sky team has been providing real-time PWV data f
rom a monitor based\non the GNSS (GPS) technique (GNSS PWV Monitors; GPM).
Among other things,\nthe PWV values help in the scheduling of the telesco
pes with IR\ninstrumentation. The GPM have undergone a continuous process
of upgrading.\nMore recently, we have undertaken the PWV forecasting. We w
ill present in\nthe talk a brief summary of the monitors and details of Fo
rO ("Forecasting\nthe Observatories"), the forecasting system for PWV at t
he Observatories.\nForO is based on a mesoscale Numerical Weather Predicti
on (NWP) model. The\nForO system has been validated and calibrated with PW
V data from the GPM\nand will deliver accurate PWV daily predictions for O
RM and OT on a 24, 48\nand 72 hours windows. This is a definitive improvem
ent to optimize the\nflexible scheduling for IR observations, in particula
r for CanaryCAM and\nEMIR at the GTC.
