SUMMARY:Problems with the dark matter and dark energy hypotheses, and alter
 native ideas
DESCRIPTION:Problems with the dark matter and dark energy hypotheses, and a
lternative ideas\nDr. Martin Lopez Corredoira\n\nTwo exotic elements have
been introduced into the standardcosmological model: non-baryonic dark mat
ter and dark energy. The successin converting a hypothesis into a solid th
eory depends strongly on whetherwe are able to solve the problems in expla
ining observations with thesedark elements and whether the solutions of th
ese problems are unique withinthe standard paradigm without recourse to al
ternative scenarios. We havenot achieved that success yet because of numer
ous inconsistencies, mainlyon galactic scales, the non-detection so far of
candidate particles fordark matter, and the existence of many alternative
hypotheses that mightsubstitute the standard picture to explain the cosmo
logical observations. Areview of some ideas and facts is given here.(arXiv
