SUMMARY:The binary population in Galactic globular clusters: theory versus
 observations
DESCRIPTION:The binary population in Galactic globular clusters: theory ver
sus observations\nDr. Antonio Sollima\n\nI present the first results of a
long term project devoted to the study of the evolution of the binary popu
lation in globular clusters. Using deep ACS@HST images of a sample of 13 g
lobular clusters I estimated the fraction of binaries in the cores of thes
 e clusters. From a theoretical side, I developed a simplified analytical c
ode which simulates the evolution of the properties of the binary populati
on in a dynamically evolving globular cluster. The comparison between theo
ry and observations allows to evaluate the efficiency of the various proce
sses of binary formation and destruction in these stellar systems and thei
r dependence on the main cluster structural and dynamical parameters.
