Planetary Geology

There is a small Spanish planetary geology community (NB- there is a planetary geology conference in Spain in October 2002) that currently has no real options for independent observational science. CanariCam offers some new options to this community:

Vulcanism on Io:

• Extremely active surface with more than a dozen highly active volcanos.
• The eruptions emit strongly (several Jy) from 3.5-microns.
• The diameter of Io is 1.2 arcsec at mean opposition and thus we get resolution on the surface.
• The spatial resolution of CanariCam allows individual volcanos to be studied and their temperature metardeed.
