Unification Models of AGNs
The study of AGNs has long been an important field of Spanish astrophysics. Canaricam will offer this community a completely new tool.
- Unified model of Seyferts suggest that there is a dust or molecular ring (a few pc diameter) in front of the nucleus and BLR
- ISOPHOT-S spectra of CfA Seyferts support this model (isotropic PAH emission, Sy. 1 brighter than Sy. 2)
- But:
- Theoretical studies suggest that the dust extends out to hundreds of parsec (Fadda et al. 1998)
- There is extended mid-IR emission (NGC 1068, Cameron et al. 1993)
- The UV continuum in Sy. 2 is stellar (Colina et al 1997)
- Canari-Cam will allow high resolution imaging of nearby AGNs and temperature mapping.
