Star formation regions and starburst activity
- Cool dust emission (peaking ?60?m) is an efficient starburst tracer.
- ISO and IRAS detected it in galaxies (and some quasars), but their spatial resolution does not allow it to be located within the galaxy.
- High metallicity extragalactic HII regions are poor in visible lines and cool mainly through mid-IR line emission. Their composition and abundances are best metardeed in the mid-IR.
