Some Images From The BARS Project

NGC2273 in the Near-IR by Josephine Chan
The 1.5 metre Carlos Sanchez infrared telescope on Tenerife now has a
working near-IR camera,"CAIN". Among the first valid BARS images taken
with this instrument are these ,in J and K', of NGC2273. The telescope
is probably the cheapest professional instrument of its size ever built,
and the fact that its effective resolution in working mode can now better
than 1 arcsecond limit is in some ways remarkable. The K' image was
curtailed in exposure at the end of a night, and no further nights were
available during the run. The image processing is by Josephine Chan of
the IAC. The J image is of good enough quality to make a ready detection
of the inner bar, which also shows up in K'. While such images are
commonplace from large installations, the 1.5 m telescope has the
advantage of relatively long runs, and can certainly be used in BARS
follow-up programmes.
