Bayes-ME

Bayes-ME is a computer program to carry out Bayesian inference of thermodynamical and magnetic properties of solar/stellar magnetic elements applying the Milne-Eddington model atmosphere to observed Stokes profiles. The result are probability distribution functions for each model parameter with complete statistical significance.

Download

Bayes-ME can be downloaded here. Follow the steps in the manual after decompressing the file to compile the code. You will need a Fortran 90 compiler. We have tested it with the Intel Fortran Compiler and with the GNU Fortran Compiler.

Application

An example of an application can be found in Asensio Ramos (2009), where quiet Sun data observed with Hinode is analyzed with Bayes-ME, producing posterior probability distribution functions for all the model parameters. An example of the output of the code is presented below for some pixels of the field-of-view.
