IAC outreach activities under the Science Weeks

 

Miniferias Tenerife 2014

The Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC), a ‘Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence’, will offer an entertaining program of outreach activities to the Canarian society in the framework of Weeks of Science and Innovation in the Canaries 2014, aimed to bring scientific culture to the society and especially to young people. Therefore, the IAC will be at the Miniferia of Science and Innovation through workshops, lectures and explanations given by researchers from the IAC.

Dates: 6, 7 and 8 Nov, 2014 in Gran Canaria; 27, 28 and 29 Nov, 2014 in Tenerife

The Severo Ochoa PhD student David Aguado will give a talk, "Cosmology for everyone", to be held on November 7th in Gran Canaria, in which he will explain what Cosmology is, where black holes come from and what is the dark energy, among other astronomical questions. On Saturday November 22nd, Nayra Rodríguez, scientific communicator of the SO program, will offer a lecture entitled "Robotic Telescopes: the universe at your fingertips," highlighting the educational projects with the Liverpool Telescope, a 2 meter robotic telescope in La Palma, in which the IAC has achieved 5% of its observing time for the development of educational projects in Spain.
