I particularly like open source software, and most of (if not all) the software used in the development of this web site is open source. Below I acknowledge the tools I used. Let me start the list with the...

...editor of choice

The editor is GNU Emacs... Right, I do not use ‘vi’. A special thank goes to GNU and the Free Software Foundation.

Development platform

The web site is developed and tested with the Chrome browser running on OS X. Of course, visualising the web pages in other browsers and devices helped

HTML template

I did not make use of any HTML templates, though the idea for the home page header was initially taken from the free template La Casa. It then evolved its own way. The following colours were used...

HTML, CSS and JavaScript coding tips & tricks

My refrences for coding are the websites StackOverflow (which helped solving 90% of the problems) and w3schools (which includes online reference manuals and code examples for HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, JQuery, etc.).

Photo deveopment

Original raw (Nikon NEF) images were developed with Darktable. Darktable is one of the most professional open source softwares I have ever used.

Photo editing

Well... The Gimp, what else?

Photo stitching

Panorama pictures were stitched together with Hugin, an impressive piece of applied mathematics.

SVG image editor

The following icons were made with the vector graphics program Inkscape. You can download and use them without any restriction.

Free web fonts

The text in the web pages is rendered with the fonts Ubuntu, Lora and Lovers Quarrel of the Google fonts collection.

SAO/NASA ADS query

I modified the javascript freely provided by the SAO/NASA Astrophysics Data System.

Lightbox galleries

Almost 10 years old Lightbox2 is the open source javascript used for slideshows of high resolution images.
