Usage |
At the command prompt, type:
emacs
The behaviour of Emacs can be customized by the file
/home/user/.emacs,
and by setting resources (colours, fonts, etc) in
/home/user/.Xdefaults

An example .emacs file can be found in the
SIE Wiki.
An alternative editor is XEmacs,
sort of a good-looking Emacs with a different flavour. A simpler
and maybe now more popular editor is Nedit.
