Please note that all the SIEpedia's articles address specific issues or questions raised by IAC users, so they do not attempt to be rigorous or exhaustive, and may or may not be useful or applicable in different or more general contexts.
As described in http://venus.ifca.unican.es/~gserrano/osiris/Calculators.html, the OSIRIS SNR Calculator requires Java v1.6 (or later), and that the appropriate MIME type and associated application be defined in the browser.
Here at the IAC Java 1.6 is installed, though it's not the default version, while the above MIME type is unknown to the browser. Changing the default Java version could produce conflicts with other Java-based packages. In this short article we explain how to set your browser up so as to be able to launch the OSIRIS SNR Calculator.
All these instructions are for an IAC desktop Linux PC.
If you wish to run this tool from your own laptop or from some other Linux machine (or from a Mac), probably the only thing you need to modify is the Java path.
application/x-java-jnlp-file
;
jnlp
;
/usr/pkg/jdk/jdk1.6.0_06/bin/javaws
;
application/x-java-jnlp-file
; in the File extension box, write jnlp
.
/usr/pkg/jdk/jdk1.6.0_06/bin/javaws
.
At this point Opera should automatically launch the Java applet when clicking on http://venus.ifca.unican.es/~gserrano/osiris/OSIRISETC.jnlp
