Extrasolar planets

The search for extrasolar planets is an important research interest in Spain. Canaricam will be a powerful new tool in the search for extrasolar planets.

For a GV star at 25pc with a Jovian planet

• Primary, V=6.8
• Planet, V=26.8
• Separation 0".2, contrast 10⁸

With CanariCam at 10 microns

• Contrast 10⁵ (give it a try with coronagraphy)

With CanariCam at 25 microns

• Contrast 10² (flux detectable in <1000s).

CanariCam will be a powerful planet detector, especially with coronagraphy.
