About this image: NGC 4535 is a barred spiral galaxy oriented nearly face-on to us. Near its center, two very-well defined arms branch into multiple loose arms toward the outskirts of the galaxy. This image illustrates the gradient in color which reflects the different predominant stellar populations, from its yellow core made up mainly of old stars, to its blue diffuse outer arms populated by younger stars.
