History of star formation in galaxies
Obtain optical/NIR spectroscopy to calibrate SED and stellar population modelling of some 50 galaxies, and determine the constraints yielded by any or all of the data available across the project (Spitzer imaging at 3.6-24μm, Herschel PACS, SDSS, GALEX). Following on this, model the SEDs and stellar populations across the whole S4G sample. Study the histories of star formation in regions where bulges, bars, ovals, or lenses dominate. Study the star formation history outside the optical limits of galaxy disks.
