The Signal Processing Unit (SPU) is a PACS warm electronics box to perform onboard science data processing namely data compression. The SPU box has a cubic shape, its envelope is 270 x 228 x 186 mm3, is mat black painted with an emissivity of 0,9, and weight 7,47 kg, see Fig. 1.1. It houses two stacked redundant units which operate in cold redundancy under power supply control of the spacecraft. Is located on the spacecraft service module (SVM) at about 300K.
