Second Announcement
Fri, 22 Dec 2000We invite our colleagues of the EARA Institutes and their collaborators to participate in a two-day workshop devoted to Galaxy Mergers. There is a broad range of observational and theoretical expertise on the merger process at our Institutes. We aim at bringing together 20+ researchers, and to use a flexible format that encourages discussion and exchange of ideas. The workshop is aimed primarily at young researchers, but is open to all.
Please email us with any corrections. We will have 24 participants and 24 talks. These could change slightly with last minute additions and/or cancellations. In any case the workshop size is moderate and should facilitate effective discussion and interaction.
Talks:
Duration: we have set 20 min per talk and 10 min discussion, which just fits in the two days. This is more generous than is usual at workshops and meetings. We will cut down the time allocated to each talk if more speakers ask to present results. The final program will be sent one week before the meeting.
Presentation devices: the workshop room will be equiped with two overhead projectors, a PC running Powerpoint and a PC projector. There will also be a black board. Please let us know (mergers@ll.iac.es) if you have special presentation needs.
Social events:
We are organizing a workshop dinner for monday night. Details to be posted in the last mailing before the workshop.
For those of you arriving on Saturday, you are on your own during Sunday. Car rental eg at the North Airport, is not expensive, whether to drive up to Teide National Park (often snow-covered this time of the year) or to get to the South beaches for a January swim.

The workshop will take place at the Lecture Room at IAC Headquarters, C/ Via Lactea, La Laguna, Tenerife. For more details see INFORMATION.
Funding: for members of EARA Institutes, costs of attending an EARA workshop should be covered by he EARA funds at your Institute.
