Title: OJ 287 in outburst!
Date: 22-12-2015
Comments: OJ 287 is in outburst. Last observation gives R=13.5, and it has been rising for a week now. We are especially interested in polarization observations. It is quite bright also in NIR bands, see http://www.astro.spbu.ru/staff/vlar/NIRlc/g0851j.png
Targets: 0851+202

Title: Blazars S5 0716+71 and B3 1633+38 in unprecedented outbursts
Date: 19-01-2015
Comments: We perform optical and near-infrared monitoring of selected gamma-bright blazars using 40-cm LX-200 (optical, St.Petersburg, Russia), 70-cm AZT-8 (optical, Crimea) and 1.1-m AZT-24 (near-infrared, Campo Imperatore, Italy), as a part of WEBT/GASP project. We report that blazars S5 0716+71 and B3 1633+38 (=4C 38.41) demonstrate violent activity during last nights, both being brighter than ever during last ten years. S5 0716+71 brightened in J band from 11.71 to 10.54 mag from 2014 December 23 (our last pre-outburst observation) to 2015 January 15. In R band it brightened from 12.40 (2015 January 14) to 11.80 (January 16). B3 1633+38 reached a value of J=12.99 (2015 January 15), as compared to J=16.26 at 2014 October 25. Its optical brightening is also reported by Danilet et al., ATel#6930. Our preliminary NIR light curves may be seen for B3 1633+38 at this page and for S5 0716+71 here. Current high activity state of these blazars deserves close attention in all wavelengths.

Title: Mrk501 is flaring
Date: 14-Oct-2014
Comments: From David Paneque: Ciao Massimo, we found a large GeV activity in LAT and decided to point the Cherenkov telescopes to see what is going on. Indeed, the source is showing very large VHE activity and, even though the campaign finished one month ago and now the visibility is not optimal, we are going to perform observations with MAGIC and FACT during this week (at the very least the following 4 days, probably longer) in order to follow better this activity. We already obtained Swift observations too (for the UV and soft X-rays). Can you ask GASPers to try to observe Mrk501 during this week ? In this way we can have a characterization of the broadband SED during this period of large GeV/TeV activity. Thanks a lot ! cheers, D.

Title: Optical brighthening of CTA102/2230+114
Date: 04-Aug-2012
Comments: I would suggest to have a look at CTA 102. According to Davron's data, in about ten days the mag decreased by 0.8 mag, from R=16.5 to 15.7! Ciao, Claudia

Title: 1510 still active
Date: 02-Mar-2012
Comments: ...just to let you know that 1510 continues to be very active in gamma (http://fermi.gsfc.nasa.gov/FTP/glast/data/lat/catalogs/asp/current/lightcurves/1510-089_86400.png), so that it deserves particular attention... Cheers, massimo

Title: Gamma-ray flare of 1510
Date: 05-Jul-2011
Comments: due to the big gamma-ray flare of 1510 occurring in these days, Dave Thompson of the Fermi team is wondering whether some optical polarization measurements in this period are available. Please let me know.

Title: Paper on 1633
Date: 28-Jun-2011
Comments: Claudia is planning a paper on 1633, please see below, and send me the data. Cheers, Massimo Dear friends, I am planning to work at a multiwavelength paper on 1633+382 (4C 38.41), one of the priority-1 GASP quasar-type blazars, and currently an interesting gamma-ray flaring source. The idea would be to collect all data (radio, mm, near-IR, optical-UBVRI) since the beginning of the GASP activity for this source (about 2008.0) and till the end of the current observing optical season (about fall 2011).
