Polytropes

- Self gravitating system of maximum entropy have infinite mass, which posses a problem (Binney & Tremaine 2008), which posed a problem. This problem was solved by Plastino and Plastino (1993) using a entropy, called . Guess what? If the Tsallis entropy is

- In this paper we (together with Nacho Trujillo and Angel Platino) we showed that the cores observed  in dwarf galaxies are polytropes.

- In this other paper we show that cores appear in numerical simulations of dark matter when the DM particles  are allowed to collide and so the thermodynamic equilibrium is reached. (This is in the heart of the so-called self-interecting dark matter model.)

Polytropes are everywhere. They seem to be the maximum entropy solutions of self-gravitating systems. In this  paper that the dark matter cores observed in dwarf galaxies are polytropes.

This is press release trying to explain the implications of this fact.
