Juan Usón

Stay at the IAC: 05/04/2016 al 04/04/2017

Research line: Cosmology and Astroparticles

Prof. Juan Usón will give a Severo Ochoa-Fundación Jesús Serra seminar at the IAC on November 3rd 2015.

Prof. Usón is Associate Scholar & Lecturer in the Physics Department at Princeton University.

He joined Princeton University in 2012 after holding different faculty positions at the Observatoire de Paris in France, Universidad de Zaragoza in Spain, and the University of Virginia, Princeton University, National Radio Astronomy Observatory and University of California Berkeley in the U.S.A. He obtained his Ph.D. at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid in 1979.

His main interests in Astrophysics include in the formation and evolution of structure in the Universe, especially that of the densest (cD) clusters of galaxies, as well as in different manifestations of the dark matter problem. He is interested as well in the various backgrounds of diffuse radiation that should provide the best observational clues on these issues.

The main objectives for the stay at the IAC are:

  • Continue the collaboration with the group of Prof. Rebolo.
  • Discuss on projects with the ALMA interferometer and EVLA interferometer with all those researchers interested at the IAC
  • Discuss on two pilot projects to be carried out with the GTC with the group of Prof. Rebolo and other researchers who may be interested. Both projects will require external funding for new filters and detectors).
