Alfred De Wijn

Stay at the IAC: 18/10/2014 to 15/11/2014

Research line: Solar Pyhsics

Dr. De Wijn gave a Severo Ochoa seminar at the IAC on October 28th 2014, entitled The COSMO Chromosphere and Prominence Magnetometer.

Currently Dr. De Wijn is a Project Scientist II at the High Altitude Observatory (HAO) of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder (Colorado, USA).

Dr. De Wijn received his PhD from Utrecht University, the Netherlands (2006), on the topic of structure and dynamics of the solar chromosphere. He moved to NCAR, first as a postdoctoral fellow and later as a project scientist.

Dr. De Wijn’s research has always been focussed on observational studies of magnetism and dynamics in the photosphere, chromosphere, and transition region. More recently, he has become heavily involved in several major instrument projects, such as the Visible SpectroPolarimeter for the Daniel K. Inouye Solar Telescope and the COSMO Chromosphere and Prominence Magnetometer (ChroMag).

During his stay at the IAC Dr. De Wijn will work with Dr. Socas-Navarro and Dr. Vitas on the determination of the solar oxygen abundance, and on inferring magnetic field in the solar chromosphere from observations from ChroMag.
