Guillermo Tenorio Tagle

Research line: Galactic Formation and Evolution
Dr. Tenorio-Tagle is full Professor at the Instituto Nacional de Astrofísica Optica y Electrónica (INAOE, Puebla - Mexico).
He obtained his Ph. D. at the Victoria University of Manchester (UK). For three years (09/1976 - 08/1978) he held a postdoctoral position at the Max-Planck Institute fur Astrophysik (Munich, Germany) and two more years (09/1978 - 08/1980) as a postdoc at the European Southern Observatory (ESO), then based in Geneva Switzerland. After that he returned to the Max-Planck Institute fur Astrophysik as head of the Interstellar Matter group, position held for almost nine years (1980 - 1989). After that he became an invited Professor at the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC, Tenerife, Spain) until February 1996. He was then awarded the Professorship Chair from the BBV-Foundation at the University of Cambridge (UK) where he was hosted at the Institute of Astronomy, for two years (3/1996 - 3/1998). Since March 1998 he is a full Professor at the Instituto Nacional de Astrofísica Optica y Electrónica (INAOE, Puebla - Mexico).
During these last years he was awarded the Spanish IBERDROLA Professorship Chair at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (May - July 2001) and a Professorship Chair at the Pierre and Marie Curie University, Paris VI, France (July 2002 and 2005). In 2006 spent a sabbatical year at the Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucia (IAA - Granada, Spain) and in 2010 six months at the Institute of Astronomy of the University of Cambridge, UK.
He has acted as full Professor at the College de France (Paris) where he was awarded the Francois I medal in 1983, he was invited in 1983 at the Center of Nuclear Studies (Saclay, France) as well as for several months during the years 1982 – 1987 to Lick Observatory, University of California - Santa Cruz and he has been Senior Visiting Fellow at ESO (Santiago Chile) in 1996 and 1998.
Guillermo Tenorio-Tagle is a world recognised expert on Interstellar Matter, Star Formation and the Feedback from Massive Stars.
The central theme of the collaboration during his visit is star formation and the physics that take place both in young, massive and coeval bursts of star formation, such as the so called super stellar clusters (SSCs) or in giant star forming regions identified in galaxies at large redshift. Particular objectives are:
- The hydrodynamics of the matter reinserted by young, massive and compact superstar clusters.
- Positive star formation feedback
- Positive star formation feedback and its confrontation with observations
