Nataliia Shchukina

Stay at the IAC: 20/01/2014 to 28/03/2015.
Research line: Solar Physics
Dr. Schukina will give a Seminar at the IAC on 2015 February 5th, entitled Solar composition as a reference for stars.
Dr. Shchukina has developed her career as a researcher at the Main Astronomical Observatory (National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine). Currently she is the Head of the Solar Physics Department at MAO and Corresponding Member of the NAS of Ukraine.

Her main scientific interests are Solar spectropolarimetry, high resolution solar physics, solar magnetism, topology and dynamics of the solar atmosphere, radiative transfer and NLTE line formation, stellar spectroscopy and stellar chemical composition. In 2005 she received the Barabashov prize of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

At the IAC she is collaborating with Dr. Javier Trujillo Bueno and the Solar Physics group, on the study of the small-scale magnetic activity of the quiet photospheres of solar-type stars and on the possible impact that such a small-scale magnetization (with mixed polarities on unresolved scales) may have on the determination of the abundances of key chemical elements like iron, carbon, oxygen and nitrogen.
