Mª Dolores Rodríguez Frías

Stay at the IAC: 03/02/2014 to 30/06/2014.

Research line: Cosmology and Astroparticles
Dr. Rodríguez Frías gave a Severo Ochoa Seminar at the IAC on June 19th 2014 entitled The JEM-EUSO Space Mission for the Extreme Universe: Frontier Astroparticle Physics @ ZeV energy range from Space.

Dr. M. D. Rodriguez Frias is currently Faculty at the Universidad de Alcalá de Henares (Spain).

She graduated on Fundamental Physics at Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM) and finished her PhD Thesis in 1993 in the HEGRA (High Energy Gamma Ray Array) Collaboration. It was the first PhD Thesis in Spain in the Cosmic Gamma Ray field in this array located at La Palma (Canary Islands).

Her main scientific interests are focussed on Astroparticle Physics, mainly Ultra-High and Extremely High Energy Cosmic Rays from Earth and Space. She is currently coordinating the Spanish contribution, funded by the Space Program of MINECO under a coordinated project (UAH, IAC, INTA, ULE & UPM), to the EUSO (Extreme Universe Space Observatory) telescope to be attached to the International Space Station (ISS) and she is the Spanish representative in the Executive Committee of this Space Mission. Moreover she is the PI of the Spanish contribution (the infrared camera) to EUSO-BALLOON (CNES), a stratospheric balloon that will be launched from Timmins (Canada) in September 2014.

During her stay at the IAC she continued the collaboration with the Astroparticle group led by Dr. R. García López and the EUSO group of Dr. J. Licandro. Some of the results were published in Morales de los Ríos et al. 2014 and in Morales de los Ríos & the JEM-EUSO Collaboration 2014. Moreover, during her stay, she coordinated as team leader the proposal of an International Team of seven countries, for the Space Institute in Bern with the participation of the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias. In addition she also participated as a lecturer in the "Master of Astrophysics" of the University of La Laguna, within the framework of the "High Energy Astrophysics and Astroparticle" course.
