In 2019 David Afonso started his PhD thesis at the IAC, with a POLMAG fellowship. His thesis advisors are Tanausú del Pino Alemán and Javier Trujillo Bueno, and the topic of his thesis is the theoretical modeling of the polarization of the solar and stellar ultraviolet spectrum. This requires taking into account anisotropic optical pumping processes in realistic multilevel atomic systems. Therefore, together with his thesis advisors David is contributing to the development of WP-1 and WP-2.
