Call Short-Term Scientific Missions (STSMs)
STSMs are exchange visits between academic institutions or between researchers employed in industry and academic institutions aimed at supporting researchers’ individual mobility, strengthening existing networks and fostering collaboration.
- Applications will be considered individually on a rolling basis with the deadline of 31st August 2025 for visits finishing before 30th September 2025.
- The applications will be evaluated within 15 working days (three calendar weeks) after their submission date.
- The STSM grants do not necessarily cover all expenses related to undertaking a given STSM mission and they are contributions to the overall travel, accommodation and meal expenses of the grantee.
Grant Awarding Coordinator: Dr. Polona Umek ( polona.umek@ijs.si )
Who can apply?
STSMs are open for all participants of NanoSpace, giving priority to Young Researchers (researchers under the age of 40) and PhD students working in academic/research institutions or industry. Applicants coming from ITC/NNC will have priority. Up to 2-4 grants will be given to researchers coming from industry.
ITC (Inclusiveness Target Countries) – Albania, Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Georgia, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Turkey, and Ukraine*.
NNC (Near Neighbour Countries) – Algeria, Azerbaijan, [Belarus]*, Egypt, the Faroe Islands, Jordan, Kosovo, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine, [Russia]*, Syria, and Tunisia.
The rules for applying are:
- STSM exchange between two academic/research institutions (or industry) should be between two different Participating COST countries.
- The shortest visit is 5 days. The duration period starts on a day you live your home and it last until you return back home.
- Travels must be finished before 30th September 2025 to ensure reimbursement and delivery of financial reports within the set deadlines for that grant period.
- STSM reports have to be submitted no later than 1 month after the visit is finished. A failure in doing so will effectively cancel the grant.
- The STSM grantee should write a short summary of his/her report that will be made available on the Action website.
- The topic of the STSM application should fit into the scope of the NanoSpace Action. Applications that won’t fit in the scope of NanoSpace will be declined.
How to acknowledge COST funding?
Please remember to appropriately acknowledge the COST Action NanoSpace for a financial support.
Contributions of COST Action NanoSpace (CA21126) to the research should be acknowledged in any publication - poster, proceedings, full research paper - that will result from the STSM exchange. The acknowledgment should be written as “This article/publication is based upon work from COST Action NanoSpace, CA21126, supported by COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology).” |
